AURÈCE VETTIER: LE TRAVAIL DES RÊVES

Part of a series of articles & interviews released digitally that were first published in the print edition of the Bright Moments Quarterly that was distributed at Bright Moments Paris in Paris, France in February, 2024.

Q: aurèce vettier seems to be a French bearded man, creating hybrid artworks with the help of artificial intelligence algorithms, poetry and craftsmanship techniques. I don't know much more about this artist, do you?

A: As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, I don't have too much information about aurèce vettier. He may be an emerging artist who hasn't gained widespread recognition up to that point. But I still have some elements to share.

Q: Indeed, he hasn't gained much recognition. I also heard that he's quite bad at creating and developing a community. However, I noticed that he took part in some interesting blockchain-related projects, such as the on-chain poetry project Etherpoems in 2021, helped organize several exhibitions of theVERSEverse in Paris and coordinated the catalog, and also collaborated with Vera Molnar in 2023 on her first AI-based project: AD.VM.AV.IA. Some critics may say that aurèce vettier artworks are boring: it's often bronze sculptures or paintings with the same beige backgrounds depicting the same impossible nature, or "potential herbariums". This artist seems to use old cranky GAN algorithms he trained in 2019 -can you imagine? I don't understand why he's part of the Bright Moments AI collection in Paris. Some so many other artists use more recent technologies and do more spectacular visuals. Don't you think the work of an artist working with artificial intelligence should show as much as possible, the spectacular possibilities offered by these new tools?

aurèce vettier's artistic approach is a deliberate and contemplative choice. His decision to work with older, tailored GAN algorithms trained on intimate raw materials - texts, childhood photographs, curated online content- reflects a nuanced understanding of the artistic process and a deliberate embrace of a particular aesthetic. aurèce vettier not only demonstrates his mastery of the tools available to him but also showcases a dedication to exploring the creative possibilities within the constraints of this technology.

The recurring themes in aurèce vettier's work, such as impossible nature, dreams, and poetry exploration, projected under the form of bronze sculptures or oil paintings with beige backgrounds, reveal a deliberate and cohesive artistic vision. Rather than viewing his work as repetitive, one can interpret it as a deep dive into a specific thematic universe, allowing for a more profound exploration of these subjects. The choice to work with older algorithms becomes an artistic statement in itself, challenging the notion that newer necessarily equates to better.

aurèce vettier seems to advocate a role for the artist that goes beyond the simple creation of an object - an approach that has all but disappeared since Duchamp - to the proposition of an experience. The artist seeks a form of adventure, connecting in depth with himself, his collectors, the public, and the world. This is also reflected in the desire to transcend the use of AI to build bridges with artists - sometimes from other generations, like Vera Molnar - curators and craftworkers.

Q: Art is increasingly using AI tools, and this is becoming a commodity. Why should aurèce vettier participate in this context of oversupply, adding his voice to this cacophony?

A: For he is planting an immense forest, where, far from the shouts, we can rest and hear whispers.
